Our story

We have been building retaining walls on Los Angeles hillsides since 2007. The work narrowed to walls on purpose rather than by accident: on a hillside lot in this city a retaining wall is a structural problem wearing a landscaping costume, and doing it alongside patios and planting means doing it second-best.

So that is the whole of the business now — from a three-foot garden terrace in Sherman Oaks to an engineered hillside wall on a canyon lot in Malibu. The same slope, drainage and compaction questions come up on both. Only the scale changes.

How we work

Every job starts on the slope, not on the phone. Walls cannot be priced from a photograph, and a firm number given without a site visit is a guess that gets corrected upwards once digging starts. We walk it, check what the grade and the water are doing, and where the bearing ground is uncertain we say so before you commit rather than after.

What you get back is an itemised written scope — materials, drainage, footing, backfill, engineering and permit coordination as separate lines. That matters because the total is the least informative number on a quote. The differences between bids live in the lines, and drainage is the one that quietly disappears from the cheap ones.

On site we build to the drawings rather than to the day. Reinforcement lengths, pier depths and footing sizes come off the plans, and everything that ends up buried — the base, the gravel chimney, the filter fabric, the pipe, every geogrid layer — is photographed before backfill covers it. It is the only record that survives the job.

What we build and service

All seven common wall systems: segmental block, poured concrete, CMU, timber, stone and boulder, shotcrete and gabion. Which one is right is a structural decision here rather than an aesthetic one, and we will tell you when the system you had in mind is the wrong answer for your slope.

Alongside new builds we handle repair on walls that are leaning, cracking, bulging or weeping, hillside work including slope stabilization, grading and anchored walls, and commercial and HOA properties where the documentation and phasing matter as much as the structure. What we do not take on is general landscaping or general construction. That is deliberate.

Standards we hold to

We are not going to list credentials we do not have. What we will do is be specific about the standards the work is held to, because those are checkable on your own job rather than on a certificate.

  • Drainage is never optional. A gravel chimney, filter fabric, perforated pipe and a legal outlet on every wall that needs one. Water, not soil, is what fails most walls in this city.
  • Compaction in lifts, tested where specified. Fill placed in depths that can actually be compacted, not one deep dump rolled on top.
  • Engineering when the job needs it. Tall walls, walls protecting structures and slopes already moving need engineered design and a soils report. We say so even when it makes the project larger and slower.
  • Permits treated as design work. Height thresholds and hillside rules vary across the County, and they get settled at design stage rather than discovered at inspection.
  • A written workmanship warranty. At sign-off, in plain language, alongside the manufacturer's material coverage.
  • Verify us yourself. Check any contractor's licence status directly with the California State License Board at cslb.ca.gov before you hire. We would rather you did.

What we will not do

Skip the drainage to win a bid

The cheapest way to make a quote look competitive and the most reliable way to guarantee a repair in a few years.

Quote a wall we have not seen

A number without a site visit is a guess dressed up as a price.

Say a repair will hold when it will not

Some walls are past repair and replacement is cheaper over ten years. Hearing that early beats a sequence of repairs that postpone it.

Sell a wall against the wrong problem

Where the slope is moving rather than the wall failing, a new wall buys a few years at real expense. That is a slope stabilization conversation instead.

Overstate what a wall can do

A retaining wall is designed for static soil pressure. It is not debris flow protection, and we will not let anyone believe otherwise.

At a glance

  • 19 years. Building retaining walls across Los Angeles County hillsides since 2007.
  • Retaining walls only. Not a landscaping company with a wall crew — it is the whole of what we do.
  • A written itemised scope. Before you commit, with drainage, footing and engineering as separate lines.
  • Drainage on every quote. The first thing cut from a cheap bid, and the first thing we detail on ours.
  • Progress photos before backfill. The base, gravel, fabric, pipe and every reinforcement layer.
  • 17 communities. Across Los Angeles County, concentrated in the foothill and canyon neighbourhoods.

Process

How a Project Runs, Start to Finish

Five phases from first phone call to final sign-off. You will know which one you are in at any point.

1

Site visit

We walk the slope, check drainage, measure, and look at what the grade is doing.

2

Written estimate

Line-item scope covering materials, drainage, footing, engineering and timeline.

3

Engineering & permits

Soils report, structural plans and plan check tracked before we mobilise.

4

Excavation & base

We cut the bench, compact the subgrade and set the footing the wall stands on.

5

Build, drain & backfill

Wall, gravel chimney, drain line and compacted backfill — photographed before it is covered.
